During a homicide investigation, York officers found videos on social media that related to the reckless shooting of firearms, which led to the search warrants. Officers seized 2.5 pounds of marijuana, 110 grams of cocaine, 19 grams of heroin, 59 grams of crack cocaine, and three firearms. Three adults and one juvenile were arrested.
In November 2021, a search warrant was executed by the York Police Department, the York County Drug Task Force, and U.S. Marshals. Authorities seized over $71,000 worth of drugs, cash, and guns from a York residence. The drugs seized included 1 lb. 3 ounces of crack cocaine, 3.9 oz. of powder cocaine, 16 grams of fentanyl, and 5 lbs. 8 ounces of marijuana. Two people were arrested and faced charges that included possession with intent to deliver and criminal conspiracy to possess with the intent to deliver.
In November 2022, Dr. Mitch Crawford, director of addiction services at WellSpan Health, spoke about the decline in overdose deaths in York County. "We're seeing a trend, perhaps, forming that there is a reduction both at the national level and at the state level, which is encouraging," he said. "But it certainly does not signal 'Mission Accomplished." As of October 2022, York County had 109 drug overdoses so far for the year. York County Coroner Pam Gay said, "We must not forget that the epidemic still persists and has never truly left us even during the pandemic." Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro warned residents that opioid use primarily shifted from heroin to fentanyl. "The rise in fentanyl has also contributed to a rise in overdose deaths. Last year, we lost 15 Pennsylvanians each and every day to a drug overdose," Shapiro said. "Law enforcement and policymakers alike must continue to do more to combat this crisis and devote additional resources to stopping fentanyl at the Southern border."
