In June 2022, investigators discovered millions of dollars worth of cocaine at a Winter Park vegan restaurant after witnessing a handoff of a duffle bag. The discovery resulted from an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security into money laundering. Investigators followed a man and watched him rent a car and take it to a storage unit to fill it with several coolers and bags. They then saw the man hand a bag to another man in the Winter Park parking lot. Investigators followed the other man who began driving erratically and eventually threw the bag out of the vehicle, which authorities discovered contained about 12 pounds of cocaine. Investigators later found another 109 kilograms of cocaine inside of the storage unit, and both men were arrested.
