West Jordan, Utah: Drug abuse trends
Data from 2020 and 2021 showed that drug-related overdose deaths were increasing in Utah. Prior to this, drug-related overdose deaths were trending down, so this trend is opposite to what was expected. Experts say that fentanyl is largely responsible for increasing drug overdose deaths in recent years. Fentanyl is a potent opioid that has made its way to the streets and become increasingly popular, but tiny amounts can lead to fatal overdoses.
The number of deaths in Utah that included fentanyl doubled from 2019 to 2020. On the other hand, the number of people dying from prescription opioids and heroin has been decreasing in the state. This is good news, but opioids can still pose a significant threat to life in Utah.
Methamphetamine is also a significant issue in Utah, as methamphetamine was the most common drug involved in Utah overdose deaths in 2020 and Q1 of 2021.
Three West Jordan man charged after drug deal with fake money

The men arranged a meeting over social media for marijuana. When the 17-year-old buyer arrived, he tried to pay with counterfeit money. The two marijuana dealers compared the money to real cash they had in their pockets, and an argument ensued. The 17-year-old boy stabbed the victim multiple times, and all three men fled the scene. Police tracked the men using surveillance and were able to detain them all.
