Notable News Events Relating to Substance Abuse in Union, NJ
Following a two-month-long investigation by the New Jersey State Police, law enforcement officials announced the arrest of two Union residents after the discovery of ongoing illegal drug activity in 2022. According to reports, Strategic Investigations Unit-North detectives first received a notice that one of the Union suspects was selling narcotics in the Hunterdon County region.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the two Union residents were conducting illegal drug sales out of their residence, later resulting in the execution of a search warrant at the home. Inside the home, law enforcement retrieved nine firearms, $1,450 worth of methamphetamine, $600 worth of LSD gel tabs, and $500 worth of psilocybin mushrooms. The two were arrested and charged with a multitude of drug distribution, firearm, and drug paraphernalia charges.

Back in 2022, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy passed a new legislative package in an effort to better tackle the ongoing opioid epidemic prevalent across the state and improve harm reduction initiatives. Furthermore, New Jersey Bill S3009 authorized the expansion of harm reduction services across the state to provide residents with more addiction support services.
