Specimens we can test for DNA
The easiest and most reliable way to obtain a DNA sample for paternity testing is to swab the inner cheeks of the people being tested. These skin cells are known as buccal cells, and they rub off easily onto cotton swabs and remain in place for analysis by our laboratory. Other specimen samples, such as hair follicles, fingernails, and garments that might contain someone's DNA, can also be tested. An Alternative Specimen DNA Test is done by registering online and shipping the specimens to us.
Legally Admissible DNA Tests vs. "Peace of Mind" At-Home Tests
A Legal Paternity Test is a court admissible DNA testing service. Accurate results for DNA paternity testing with 99.99% confidence or greater take about a week.
When deciding which type of DNA test is right for you, consider first what you might do with the results. In order for the results of a DNA test to hold up in court, for child support, or to change the name on a birth certificate, the test must be done at a clinic using strict chain of custody procedures. Our Tucson DNA testing technicians are trained to follow guidelines that ensure that the results can be used for legal purposes.

DNA Identifies Sailor Killed at Pearl Harbor
On December 7th, 1941, the USS Oklahoma was attacked in Pearl Harbor, killing 429 sailors. At the time, only 35 of them were identified. In 2015, the U.S. Department of Defense's POW/MIA Accounting Agency began working with genealogists to conduct DNA testing. Thanks to this new technology, as of 2021, they had successfully identified 200 of the remaining Pearl Harbor sailors. Among them was Signalman Third Class Austin Hesler, the great uncle of Tucson resident Ketherin Ayala. When asked about the discovery, she said, "I was so happy, it's like a closure."
Husband and Wife Both Reunited with Family After DNA Tests
A Tucson couple received the surprise of their life when they both connected with biological family members after taking DNA tests. Sharon and Mike Morgan were both adopted, but Mike did not learn this until he was 40. After submitting a DNA test, he was able to connect with his biological father and two siblings.
Following this turn of events, Sharon decided to take a DNA test of her own. She was pleasantly surprised when someone reached out to her stating that he was her half-brother. Since then, she has connected with two more half-siblings. Both Sharon and Mike remain in contact with their newfound relatives and are pleased to have them in their lives.
Arizona Paternity Test Rules
If you've been asked to take a paternity test in Arizona, you know that the results can completely change your life. When faced with this situation, it's normal to wonder whether you have a legal right to refuse. According to attorneys at the Tucson-based AZ Family Law Team, a child's mother can petition the courts to initiate a paternity action. If the courts deem there is sufficient evidence, they will likely order a paternity test,
The courts cannot force a man to take a paternity test. However, refusal may result in legal consequences. If you refuse a court-ordered paternity test, you could be held in contempt of court. In some cases, you may also face criminal charges.
