In March 2021, a 10-day operation conducted by multiple local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies led to 258 arrests. Operation Frontier Justice was a joint effort between the Topeka Police Department, Shawnee County Sheriff's Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, the FBI, the U.S. Attorney's Office, and more. The sting resulted in the arrest of 16 known gang members and the seizure of 24 firearms, $25,000 in cash, and close to 19 kg of narcotics including methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, and marijuana. In addition to taking drugs off the streets, this initiative also focuses on targeting and arresting violent fugitives, gang members, and criminal offenders who have committed violent crimes.

In 2022, Shawnee County allocated $50,000 for a Special Drug and Alcohol Program to help individuals suffering from addiction get back on their feet. These funds, which are allocated for 2023, represent a 23% increase in funding over the past year. The county commissioners say that the funds help cover a variety of programs including Valeo, which provides a social detox program for individuals with substance abuse problems, PARS (Prevention and Resiliency Services), which works with families and youth, and drug courts that assist adults suffering from addiction.
