Notable Historical Events Related to Drug Use in Tomball, TX
Two Tomball residents were among dozens of individuals charged after an opioid takedown in Houston in 2019. Forty-one people, including physicians, pharmacists, managers, and medical providers played roles in running "pill mills" that distributed about 23 million hydrocodone, carisoprodol pills, and oxycodone pills. As part of the investigation, authorities carried out 36 search warrants, 15 of which were at pharmacies and six at pill mill clinics. Seven pharmacies and two providers were suspended for dispensing controlled substances without a valid medical reason. The pharmacist and owner at one pharmacy dispensed the second-highest amount of oxycodone compared to all Texas pharmacies in 2019. A Tomball physician and family nurse practitioner were included in the 41 individuals charged.
