Local Initiatives to Curb Substance Abuse in Tallahassee, FL
The Tallahassee Fire Department has been using Narcan to save lives. Narcan, also known as naloxone, is a life-saving medication that reverses the effects of opioid overdoses. Trey Dollar of the Tallahassee Fire Department said he uses Narcan to resuscitate overdose patients who are "breaths away from dying." According to Dollar, once Narcan is administered, a patient's respiratory drive returns, and they become normal again. With Narcan available, first responders can save lives.
Fifty people were arrested due to drug-trafficking charges, including a Tallahassee man
More than 50 individuals have been arrested on drug trafficking charges as part of a long-term investigation led by the DEA in collaboration with local and state law enforcement agencies. U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, Jason R. Coody, announced the arrests and commended the efforts of all involved agencies in disrupting the flow of illegal drugs into North Florida.
"This operation demonstrates the dedication of our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to keeping our communities safe and removing dangerous, addictive substances from our streets," said U.S. Attorney Coody. "We will continue to support their efforts as we work together to investigate and prosecute those responsible for trafficking drugs into our region." The operation resulted in the seizure of over 35 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, several ounces of fentanyl, multiple kilograms of cocaine, more than 60 firearms, and over $100,000 in cash.
