Back in July 2022, Texas law enforcement announced an indictment against 22 people, including 11 Stephenville residents, for their roles in a massive methamphetamine trafficking operation. According to reports, the trafficking operation had ties to the Mexican cartel and was responsible for trafficking methamphetamine across many Central Texas regions, including Erath County and, subsequently, Stephenville.
During the long-running investigation, titled Operation Long Reach, law enforcement discovered that the group smuggled liquid methamphetamine into the Dallas/Fort Worth region. The drugs were then converted into crystal meth and sold in kilogram amounts across the region. Investigators also believe that the group distributed a minimum of 1,100 pounds of methamphetamine, which held a street value of well over $24 million.
Laws and Regulations Relating to Substance Abuse in Stephenville, TX
In 2023, Texas lawmakers passed HB 3908, also known as Tucker's Law, which created new opioid education requirements for school health advisory councils. Under this new ruling, Stephenville schools are required to develop and implement a curriculum that encompasses the dangers of opioid addiction and the abuse of synthetic opioids.
