News Events Relating to Substance Abuse in Spring, TX

Back in August 2022, four suspected Spring drug dealers were arrested after an 8-year-old child was discovered inside a residence where a search warrant was executed. According to reports, law enforcement was made aware of a suspected drug house in the 5700 block of Desert Oak Way, which prompted law enforcement to serve a search warrant.

Inside the home, Spring law enforcement discovered a child as well as several ounces of crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a stolen vehicle, and instruments used to develop fake identification and credit cards. Officers arrested the homeowners, who were also the child's parents, as well as a third suspect, found lying under a bat of insulation in the attic. In addition to drug possession, the parents were also charged with endangering a child.

Laws and Regulations Relating to Substance Abuse in Spring, TX

In April 2023, Harris County officials announced they would begin to enact new drug possession arrest guidelines effective April 21. Under new regulations, anyone caught with less than 4 grams of a controlled substance will not face criminal charges until a lab confirms the type of drug found unless they are suspected of committing a violent crime at the time of possession.

The new rules have been introduced to reduce unnecessary time and waiting in jail. The new regulation will shorten the time between a case filing and the disposition of a case, which results in suspects not having to wait in jail for as long. This process helps not overwhelm the local court system and provides officials with more time to prioritize serious and violent crimes.
