The investigation began in July 2022 in Wyoming after a car carrying 40 pounds of methamphetamine crashed, and one passenger in the car became a confidential source. The source told investigators that the meth came from a warehouse in Santa Clara, where someone was crystalizing shipments of liquid meth, smuggling them to the Bay Area, and repackaging them for distribution. According to the anonymous source, this had been taking place for several years. The DEA began surveilling the warehouse on August 2, 2022 and observed the suspected ringleader who drove a red Nissan Altima to Milpitas, where the bag was handed to an individual driving a Chevrolet Equinox. The DEA pulled over the Equinox, finding 24 pounds of methamphetamine inside a bag.
