Local Drug Busts in San Diego, California
San Diego's strategic location has made it a focal point for drug trafficking activities, including the distribution of fentanyl. Law enforcement agencies in the county have been actively engaged in combating the spread of illegal drugs, leading to many arrests and drug busts.
One drug bust occurred on February 9th, 2024, in San Diego County and involved Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) San Diego's Fentanyl Abatement and Suppression Team (FAST), the California Department of Justice San Diego Fentanyl Enforcement Program, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, and the U.S. Border Patrol. A suspect was arrested, and officials seized 720,000 fentanyl pills from the vehicle.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta stated that this was the largest fentanyl seizure since the announcement of a partnership between the Department of Justice's Fentanyl Enforcement Program and the FAST Task Force. A total of 110 packages, weighing 72.05 kilograms (158.8 pounds) and containing blue pills marked with "M30" believed to contain fentanyl, were discovered.
