Rowlett, Texas: Drug abuse trends

In 2021, researchers from the University of Texas studied drug seizures, drug treatment program admissions, and calls to poison control centers. The studies showed that Texas's most commonly trafficked and abused drugs were heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, marijuana, Xanax, and synthetic cannabinoids.

Initiatives to curb drug abuse in Rowlett, Texas

Governor Abbott has signed several bills aimed at curbing fentanyl's distribution and use, including House Bill 6. These bills categorize overdoses from synthetic opioids as poisonings. Consequently, if a person is found guilty of administering a lethal dose of synthetic opioids, they can be charged with murder.

Rowlett is part of a community initiative—the "One Pill Can Kill" campaign. It's an initiative aimed at informing the public about the risks of fentanyl poisoning. On average, five people die daily in Texas because of fentanyl-involved overdoses.

Traffic stop leads to several arrests, including one Rowlett woman

Authorities in Shreveport-Bossier City arrested several individuals and seized a considerable amount of narcotics following a traffic stop. During an undercover operation, narcotics agents discovered large quantities of crystal methamphetamine, black tar heroin, carisprodol, cash, and a handgun in a vehicle. One individual from Rowlett was among those booked into Caddo Correctional Center on drug possession with intent to distribute charges. An investigation at a Shreveport residence led to the retrieval of more narcotics, cash, a bulletproof vest, and the arrest of four more people. Bonds for some are set, while others await determination.
