Martinez's sister, Loretta Huerta, says that she wants people to have better access to information and to know that "there is hope" and "that you can recover and are worth it."
Police Efforts to Reduce Drug Problems in Roswell
In June 2022, the New Mexico High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Program (NM HIDTA) received national recognition for its work dismantling a drug trafficking organization that had been using Roswell as a hub. This organization was allegedly transporting large amounts of fentanyl and methamphetamine from Mexico into southeastern New Mexico and other parts of the United States. The bust was part of an organized effort known as Operation Shape Shifter.
Dr. Rahul Gupta, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) announced the recognition, thanking those participating in the program for "working every day to keep our communities healthy and safe."

The streets of New Mexico are a bit safer following the seizure of several pounds of lethal illegal drugs. The seizure occurred after a female driver from Roswell was pulled over and her vehicle was searched. During the search, a hidden compartment was found under the floorboards. Inside, officers found more than five pounds of fentanyl and 10 pounds of methamphetamine. The estimated street value of the drugs was $577,000. The woman was taken to jail and booked for manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance.
