Richmond falls under Contra Costa County, which reported 144 deadly opioid overdoses in 2020. The rate in the county for drug overdose deaths in 2020 was 12.6 per every 100,000 residents, which is lower than the state's average. During the same year, 296 people visited emergency rooms, and 93 were hospitalized due to drug overdoses.

Although Contra Costa County's numbers are lower than California's average, they are still increasing, and many people struggle with substance use disorder. Fortunately, the county offers many treatment options and facilities for people who need help.

Six people charged after a drug bust in Richmon, California

Richmond police started an investigation in March 2020, which led to six people being charged with various drug possession and other production-related offenses. Each of them faces between one and fifteen crimes.

Once police obtained the search warrants, they went to three locations. They seized a hundred kilograms of illicit drugs, including MDMA, cannabis, ephedrine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and heroin mixed with fentanyl. They also took five rifles, three pistols, sound suppressors, pill presses, over $200,000 in cash, vehicles, cell phones, and watches.

The police stated these investigations could take countless hours and are incredibly complex, but authorities are committed to making Richmond safer.
