Local Initiatives to Help Curb Substance Abuse in Oxnard, CA

In an effort to reduce the rising number of annual opioid-related overdoses in Oxnard and the surrounding Ventura County, county officials developed the Ventura County Responds initiative. The initiative educates and guides local residents on the risks of opioid abuse with local resources to prevent and treat deadly overdoses, as well as solutions for those seeking treatment services.

A primary focus of the initiative is fentanyl education and the deadly risks that come with its abuse. It also brings attention to the individuals who are dealt counterfeit pills that unknowingly contain deadly amounts of fentanyl, creating a high risk for overdose. Due to this concern, the program works to supply residents with Naloxone resources. Naloxone is an emergency overdose treatment drug that can be used to reverse the deadly side effects of opioid overdose.
