In January 2023, the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force arrested a suspected fentanyl dealer in Ogden following two separate police pursuits. The female suspect fled from law enforcement twice in December 2022 after they attempted to pull her over, resulting in her running red lights, passing cars in the median, and even hitting multiple police vehicles and a pedestrian officer.

Police began pursuing the Ogden suspect after the U.S. Postal Service notified Ogden Police of a suspicious package that was sent to her residence from California in April 2022. It contained 1,000 fentanyl pills. An analysis of the suspect's text message history informed police the pills originated from a narcotics supplier in Mexico. The suspect was ordered to be held without bail and faces multiple felony charges including failure to stop for police, narcotic possession, and assault on a police officer.

Local Initiatives to Help Curb Substance Abuse in Ogden, UT

Weber County officials recently announced that they are set to receive roughly $11.45 million dollars to help address substance abuse concerns across the area — a share of the national $26 billion opioid manufacturer settlement. Weber County expects to begin receiving the fund in the first quarter of 2023 and will continue to receive payments over the next 18 years.

According to the Weber Human Services department, the funds will be directed to varying efforts to help Ogden and Weber County residents who require quality drug and alcohol treatment services. Such efforts will include hiring two navigators assigned to work with individuals brought into emergency rooms due to abuse issues, such as overdose to help provide immediate assistance. Funds will also be used to enhance substance abuse prevention education in Weber County schools.
