In August 2022, a 42-year-old Norwich man was sentenced to prison for violating the conditions of his supervised release from a previous federal conviction. In a 2020 drug trafficking investigation by Norwich Police, officers made two drug purchases from the man. Officers then searched his home, finding 114 grams of heroin, drug packaging materials for street sale, about two pounds of marijuana, and a loaded gun. In November 2022, Director of Health Patrick McCormack spoke about the rising number of opioid overdose deaths in Norwich and New London County. "It's important to realize that each death isn't a data point but an impact on families, service providers, and the community," McCormack added.
