In Connecticut, 3.89 percent of all deaths are caused by drug overdoses. In the last three years, the overdose death rate increased by more than eight percent annually. The overdose death rate is 34.7 deaths per every 100,000 residents, which is 67.63 percent more than the national average. Norwalk reported a more than fourteen percent increase in overdose deaths from 2019 to 2020. Drug overdose fatalities were the most common for ages 35 to 44.
Norwalk falls under Fairfield County, which reported that the number of drug overdose deaths grew by more than 14 percent from 2019 to 2020. Although overdose deaths still increased, Fairfield County recorded the lowest overdose death rate in Connecticut.
Norwalk police arrested two people after drug raid
A few days before Christmas in 2022, Norwalk police arrested two people on drug charges. After investigating the suspects for four months, police executed multiple search warrants. They found almost 40 grams of powder cocaine, 60 grams of crack cocaine, nearly 170 grams of fentanyl, and about two pounds of marijuana.
The suspects were arrested and charged with multiple crimes. Each person was held on bond; one already had seven felony convictions and eleven court cases pending. Authorities expect more arrests related to the crimes to occur.
