Laws and Regulations Relating to Substance Abuse in North Lima, OH
In August 2017, Ohio's health care regulatory board implemented new prescribing regulations in an effort to reduce opioid abuse and deadly overdose. This effort comes as part of a $1 billion annual investment by the state of Ohio to enhance legal action against poor medical practices as well as strengthen prescription monitoring tools to reduce deadly drug abuse.
The regulations highlight new restrictions placed upon prescribing practices for the treatment of acute pain. Under new rules, no more than a seven-day opioid supply can be prescribed to adults and no more than a five-day supply for minors. If a prescriber believes a patient should have a longer prescription, the healthcare professional must document and explain the diagnosis of the patient and why they require an extended prescription.
