Local initiatives to curb drug abuse in North Las Vegas, NV
One initiative in North Las Vegas and Nevada is the PACT Coalition, which aims to create programs that support substance abuse prevention. The coalition focuses mainly on prevention strategies, especially for youth who may be at risk of substance abuse. It aims to prevent substance abuse among all age groups and promote education, stigma reduction, support, and outreach.
The RX Abuse Leadership Initiative of Nevada (RALI) partners with leading organizations nationwide to reduce prescription medicine abuse and help educate the community about drug and opioid overdoses. RALI encourages the safe use, storage, and disposal of prescription medicines. The organization assists with finding takeback centers for unused prescription medications. It provides guidance on safely disposing of these medications at home if a takeback center cannot be located near you.
K9 officers helped seize 80 pounds of meth in North Las Vegas
The North Las Vegas Police Department praised one of its K9 officers for playing a crucial role in a significant drug bust in May 2023. According to a department post, K9 Jimmy assisted in the seizure of approximately 80 pounds of methamphetamine. The department highlighted that the hard work of their officers and K9s, like Jimmy, was instrumental in halting the distribution of this illegal substance and keeping the community safe.
