Substance Abuse Trends and Statistics for New Haven, CT
Local Initiatives to Help Curb Substance Abuse in New Haven, CT
As part of a county-wide effort to reduce the harmful and deadly effects of opioid abuse, New Haven County officials developed the Harm Reduction Taskforce. This local task force works towards an overall goal of aligning resources and nearby partnerships with residents in need of substance abuse treatment, preventive services, and harm reduction services.
For instance, the Syringe Exchange Program has designated a local mobile medical clinic to supply drug users with clean syringes to help prevent bloodborne diseases, like Hepatitis C, which is a common risk with shared drug use. The mobile clinic also supplies Naloxone kits to residents in need, which can be used in the event of an opioid overdose to reverse deadly side effects.
