Back in July 2021, legislative updates were made to the existing Idaho Pharmacy Act to better target the ongoing concern of deadly opioid overdose. Under Idaho Statute 54-1733B of the Pharmacy Act, any licensed health professional is now able to prescribe and dispense Naloxone when acting in good faith and exercising reasonable care for the public. Family members or community-based organizations dealing with individuals who are at risk of opioid overdose can receive either a nasal spray or injectable form of Naloxone in an effort to reduce the risk of overdose death.
