Midland, TX: Drug abuse trends

The number of overdoses in Midland, Texas, is growing every year. Methamphetamine is still the most commonly abused drug, and the numbers for abuse keep increasing. The location of Texas, which is close to Mexican borders, leads Mexican drug organizations to transport a significant quantity of methamphetamine into and throughout the state. Since the drug is easily available, the price is quite reduced. In 2020, almost 14,000 people in Texas were arrested for selling and manufacturing illegal drugs.

Heroin indicators are also on the rise, but cocaine has continued to decrease in Midland, Texas. The most significant noticeable increase is in fentanyl, a potent opioid often mixed with heroin or other drugs without people even knowing. Drug dealers often mix fentanyl into other drugs because it is cheaper yet much stronger. Unfortunately, fentanyl is also more potent than many drugs, and misuse has led to an influx of drug overdoses all over the country.

Midland woman and man were arrested for drugs after a traffic stop

Police stopped the Midland man and woman, but they did not expect to find cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamine during a regular traffic stop. This resulted in the arrest of both people. They were charged with possession of fentanyl and possessing cocaine with the purpose of trafficking.

The two Midlands were later released from custody and awaiting trial.
