Drug Laws and Regulations in Marshall, MN

In May 2023, Governor Tim Walz signed HF 2041 to make the state of Minnesota the first in the nation to legalize all forms of drug paraphernalia. This newly introduced public safety bill further allows eligible medical service providers to dispense sterile needs to those who request them in addition to decriminalizing small amounts of drug residue found within drug paraphernalia.

This repeal of previous Minnesota drug paraphernalia laws comes in part of an ongoing harm reduction effort to decrease the spiking numbers of infectious diseases seen across the state. Officials hope that in partnership with the state's various syringe access programs, the easier access provided by this bill will also open the door to providing those struggling with substance abuse with resources on how and where they can seek drug treatment.
