In July 2022, a traffic stop near Marshall, MI led to the seizure of nearly $1 million worth of cocaine. Michigan State Police troopers made the traffic stop on westbound I-94 near Marshall and obtained consent to search the vehicle. However, before troopers could make the search, the driver fled. The vehicle was later found involved in a single-car crash north of I-94 on Old U.S. 27. The occupants left the scene, but inside the vehicle, officers found nearly 10 kilos of cocaine. A Michigan State Police K-9 team searched for the vehicle's occupants as the Marshall Police Department worked at the scene with the help of the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office, Paw Paw MSP Post, and the Marshall MSP Post. The K-9 team found the driver, a 27-year-old man from New York City, hiding in an outbuilding with an infant. They also found a 22-year-old, also from New York City, holding a toddler, and a 50-year-old New York City resident. All three individuals were arrested on multiple charges.
