The two California residents were charged with intent to distribute various narcotics, conspiracy to unlawfully transport firearms, and possession and transportation of unregistered firearms.
According to reports, undercover agents began communicating with the California suspects after they advertised sales for various firearms and narcotics over social media. During the investigation, law enforcement purchased a collection of drugs and firearms, including heroin and five AR-15 firearms, which later resulted in the suspects' arrests. The two face a mandatory minimum prison sentence of five years and a maximum of 40 years in prison as well as a maximum fine of $5 million.
In March 2023, California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a new master plan aimed at tackling the ongoing fentanyl and opioid crisis taking place across the state.
