Local Initiatives to Help Curb Substance Abuse in Little Rock, AR

The Little Rock Community Programs Department developed the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) initiative to reduce substance abuse concerns across the area. This initiative aims to better identify local concerns about substance abuse, develop more constructive preventive strategies, and continually address policy requirements to increase overall program effectiveness.

In recent years, the Little Rock ATOD initiative has targeted various community components to reduce substance abuse concerns. These components include developing school drug prevention programs, resident-driven neighborhood programs, and enhancing available public resources to better target individual drug concerns. ATOD now also offers a hotline residents can use to obtain resources and guidance regarding substance abuse treatment.

Notable Events Relating to Substance Abuse in Little Rock, AR

In October 2021, Little Rock Police and the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) teamed up to combat violent drug-related crimes. Just weeks into the local investigation, both agencies were able to seize heavy amounts of drugs and weapons across the Little Rock area. Officials claim these large seizures could impact the local drug trade and help better identify violent criminals in the area.

The two law enforcement teams executed three separate search and seizure warrants in a single day, where officials discovered 100 grams of Fentanyl tablets, 47 pounds of methamphetamine, $50,000 in cash, and multiple firearms. A resident was charged and arrested on numerous drug trafficking charges related to these seizures for the first significant bust in this long-term Little Rock investigation.
