According to reports, the investigation began in November 2022 when the victim was found unresponsive in his home and later died at a local hospital.

Upon investigation, a white powdery substance found next to the victim—which was originally thought to be cocaine—tested positive for fentanyl, a highly potent and deadly synthetic opioid. After receiving the victim's cell phone, law enforcement discovered Facebook messages between him and the Lindenhurst drug dealer discussing a drug deal transaction involving strictly cocaine.
