In February 2020, two Leesburg residents were charged after authorities seized about $18,000 worth of illegal drugs from a Leesburg home earlier that year. The arrests were a result of an investigation by the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office into drug distribution in Leesburg and Loudon County. Authorities conducted a traffic stop in January 2020 and searched the home on Hancock Place in Leesburg. Officers seized crack cocaine, cocaine, marijuana, heroin, and a firearm. The drugs had a street value of nearly $18,000. The suspects faced multiple drug charges, including possession and distribution charges.

In March 2023, Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman spoke about the dangers of fentanyl in Leesburg and Loudoun County. "Fentanyl is a particular danger due to its extreme toxicity, low cost of production, and availability in many easily disguised forms," he said. "Here in Loudoun County, we are committed to keeping it out of our communities and schools and to working with our partners to ensure greater awareness and treatment options." Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 times more powerful than heroin and 100 times more powerful than morphine. Fentanyl is often mixed with other drugs, and users are often unaware.
