Government Efforts to Address Drug Problems in Layton, UT

The Davis County Health Department provides opioid safety resources to Layton and county residents. The health department offers education and prevention tool kits, treatment resources, and naloxone training. Naloxone, also known as Narcan, prevents deaths by reversing the effects of an opioid overdose.

In addition to these efforts, the Layton City Police Department provides a place for residents to drop off unused prescription medications. The police department urges Layton residents to not throw away prescription medications; throwing them away can harm the environment, cause pollution, or cause someone else to find and sell them. Safely disposing of these medications prevents overdoses. Layton residents can return unwanted, unused, or expired prescription medications at the Layton City Police Department or at multiple locations across Utah.

Experts Say...

Sheriff Kelly V. Sparks spoke about the partnership between the Davis County Sheriff's Department and Utah Naloxone. "Substance use disorder negatively impacts thousands of lives every day and many lives are lost due to overdoses. These deaths can and should be prevented," Sparks said. "Providing naloxone rescue kits is a simple yet powerful way for us to connect those we serve with life-saving information and resources."
