In response to the growing substance abuse crisis, Nevada has implemented several initiatives. The PACT Coalition was formed to create programs supporting substance abuse prevention, focusing mainly on youth at risk. Additionally, the RX Abuse Leadership Initiative of Nevada (RALI) partners with organizations nationwide to reduce prescription medicine abuse and educate the community on the safe use, storage, and disposal of medications​​.

Nevada's approach to employment and drug testing has evolved, especially with the legalization of recreational marijuana. Assembly Bill 132 in Nevada makes it illegal for employers to reject job applicants just because they tested positive for cannabis. However, this rule doesn't apply to certain jobs like firefighters, emergency medical technicians, positions requiring driving that are regulated by federal or state law, or jobs where safety could be a concern.

In January 2024, drug agents in Las Vegas intercepted over 70 pounds of methamphetamine and arrested four individuals involved in a drug distribution network. The arrests followed a series of undercover operations where the suspects inadvertently handed over drugs to officers.
Initially, a transaction involving three pounds of meth led to the discovery of extra seven pounds provided by mistake. A subsequent operation resulted in the seizure of 60 more pounds of meth.
