In 2020, the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation seized 1,600 "dosage units" of fentanyl, a tiny number compared to the 13,500 units that were seized in just the first three quarters of 2022. The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) says that they started seeing an uptick in fentanyl pills and powders showing up in the labs beginning in 2017 and the numbers have steadily increased.
In 2017, the lab saw 12 "observed fentanyl items." In 2022, this number increased to 289. A recent article in the Laramie Live news outlet also reported that there have been 113 drug-related overdose deaths in the past year, a 9% year-over-year increase.
