Notable Events Relating to Substance Abuse in Lambertville, MI
In April 2022, law enforcement officials announced the takedown of one of the largest drug distribution operations seen across the Lambertville and Monroe County area. According to reports, Monroe County Police conducted multiple raids that resulted in the arrest of local residents Paris Bridgeforth, Ronald Adams, Trevor Foreman, and Ditania Adams.
The Monroe Area Narcotics Team and Investigative Services (MANTIS), which consisted of more than 100 law enforcement officers, simultaneously conducted raids on 5 different homes following a year-long investigation. Inside the home, officials discovered various amounts of illegal controlled substances and firearms.
The four residents are believed to be the leaders of a local drug ring responsible for trafficking large amounts of cocaine and methamphetamine throughout Monroe County. Each was charged with several federal drug and firearm charges. Local officials believe that these arrests will have a significant impact on the availability of drugs throughout the Monroe County area.
Laws and Regulations Relating to Substance Abuse in Lambertville, MI
The state of Michigan passed Public Act 247 to implement a requirement for physicians to create a bona fide prescriber-patient relationship prior to issuing any sort of controlled substance. Having gone into effect in January 2018, a prescriber must now build this relationship by first reviewing the patient's medical history to complete a full assessment of a patient's medical condition.
This bona fide relationship also requires a prescriber to create and maintain records of a patient's ongoing condition and accompanied treatment plans. This effort helps increase prescribing safety and works to ensure dangerous controlled substances do not end up in the wrong hands.
