Notable Historical Events Related to Drug Use in Knoxville, TN
In August of 2022, thirteen people, including 11 Knoxville residents, were indicted for the conspiracy to distribute 1,000 kilograms or more of marijuana and the conspiracy to commit money laundering. The charges followed an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Appalachian High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force, Internal Revenue Service, and the United States Postal Inspection Service. These individuals conspired to distribute over 2,000 pounds of marijuana. One of the men was also charged with possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
In August of 2022, a drug raid in Knoxville, executed by Knoxville Sheriff's Office deputies, led to the arrest of five people. Inside the home, officers found 312 grams of methamphetamine split into four-ounce bags, digital scales, drug paraphernalia, needles, and several guns. Two of the individuals were felons and could not legally own firearms.

Knoxville firefighter and paramedic Andrew Link spoke about the increase in opioid overdoses in Knoxville. "We can see the signs a mile away," he said, speaking about the numerous amounts of overdose calls the department runs. "Majority of them are opioids. It's usually heroin or fentanyl, or a combination, or all the above."
