The state is working on curbing the number of overdose fatalities and what may be a significant help is that in January 2022, Georgia joined the $26 billion multistate settlement agreement. The agreement is between multiple states, three major pharmaceutical distributors (Cardinal, McKesson, and AmerisourceBergen), and opioid manufacturer and marketer Johnson & Johnson. Because of this settlement, the state will get $636 million, which will be used for treatments and prevention.

A ten-month-old infant was found unresponsive by police. The infant had methamphetamine, amphetamine, and caffeine in his system. Johns Creek police officers were called to the infant's home, where they found a grandmother trying to give the infant CPR. The child's mother gave the baby Narcan just before the police arrived. Later on, they found multiple different drugs in the baby's blood. Once they got a search warrant, they found fentanyl, meth, and Xanax pills and charged the parents with possession of drug-related objects, reckless conduct, and cruelty to children.
