In 2019, 268 people died due to drug overdose in Queens. Just a year later, there was a 45.5 percent increase in overdose deaths. Seventy-one percent of the deaths were connected to the deadly drug fentanyl and its derivatives. Many drugs are laced with fentanyl, and people who take it often do not even know it is there.

Local initiatives to curb drug abuse in Jackson Heights, NY

The Office of Addiction Services and Supports in New York State has awarded the Citywide Addiction Support Network up to 10.49 million dollars to reduce substance abuse in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens.

CASN (Citywide Addiction Support Network) plans to ensure 24/7 access to medications for opioid use disorder. The goal is for the prevention services to grow in all three boroughs, so the organization will support prevention, treatment, and recovery from opioid and stimulant use. Seventy-eight people are certified advocates and trainees who will help New Yorkers find the treatment services they need and support them through the rehabilitation process.

The Queens Misdemeanor Treatment Court has operated since 2002 and has screened over 8,000 individuals. Its primary purpose is to help eligible defendants break the addiction cycle by referring them to treatments and providing them with alternatives to drug use.

I did a drug test here for a job. It was fine, no hassles. A little hard to find though.
