Substance abuse statistics for Idaho Falls, ID
Idaho Falls, ID: Drug abuse trends
Fentanyl has become a significant concern in Bonneville County. In 2022, First Responders reported an average of at least one overdose call per day. About half of these calls were related to fentanyl, and about one-third of these incidents were fatal. It should be noted that these numbers only represent the overdoses that were reported to First Responders. Despite fentanyl being present in the county for many years, by April 2022, law enforcement reported a higher seizure of fentanyl-laced pills compared to the total in 2021. The potency of fentanyl poses risks, as even small amounts can be fatal, and users might not be aware of the exact quantity they are consuming.
Two Idaho Falls individuals sentenced to Federal Prison after trafficking drugs
From January to December 2020, two individuals from Idaho Falls were involved in trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl into Idaho Falls and surrounding communities. Their supply source was identified in California, from which they procured substantial amounts of methamphetamine and other substances. In December 2020, upon executing a search warrant, authorities found about 12,000 fentanyl pills and over 56 pounds of methamphetamine in their possession. After a thorough investigation, both individuals were sentenced to over 20 years in Federal Prison.
