Experts Say...
In 2021, Hurricane Police Chief Mike Mullins spoke about the city's Criminal Interdiction Unit (CIU), saying, "About a year and a half ago we started a Criminal Interdiction Unit, and we did it to try to keep drug activity out of Hurricane. They also serve warrants, so that's why it's the Criminal Interdiction Unit." Mullins also mentioned the random traffic stops in Hurricane in 2021 that led to the seizure of drugs and cash. "They pull random traffic stops, ask certain questions, and they get the reactions of the drivers, and they go from there to see if they need to investigate further into the traffic stop; that's why we're the interdiction unit." Mullins continued, "We're doing our best to keep the drugs out of Hurricane and keep our community safe. We're seizing drugs, were seizing guns, getting them off the street."
