North Carolina has reported high drug overdose death rates, and High Point is no exception.

At least 3,304 people died in 2020 due to drug overdose in North Carolina. Data shows that the state experienced a significant increase in overdose deaths compared to 2019. Fatal overdoses grew by 40 percent in 2020, and more than 70 percent of all overdose deaths involved fentanyl.

In High Point, mixing cocaine or methamphetamine with other substances like opioids is becoming more common. Drug dealers often mix fentanyl into other drugs since it is stronger than morphine and has become readily available on the streets. However, due to its potency, the street use of fentanyl is highly dangerous, and even a few milligrams can lead to a fatal drug overdose. Fentanyl is largely responsible for driving more and more deaths in High Point and across North Carolina.

High Point police seized three guns and multiple drugs

High Point police found and seized three guns and several illegal substances. The units went to a High Point home and talked to one individual when they noticed someone was running out of the back door. Later, they found a backpack in the area where the person ran. The backpack contained guns, methamphetamine, crack cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, and other drug paraphernalia. The police arrested an 18-year-old man shortly after.
