Specimens we can test for DNA
The easiest and most reliable way to obtain a DNA sample for paternity testing is to swab the inner cheeks of the people being tested. These skin cells are known as buccal cells, and they rub off easily onto cotton swabs and remain in place for analysis by our laboratory. Other specimen samples, such as hair follicles, fingernails, and garments that might contain someone's DNA, can also be tested. An Alternative Specimen DNA Test is done by registering online and shipping the specimens to us.
Legally Admissible DNA Tests vs. "Peace of Mind" At-Home Tests
A Legal Paternity Test is a court admissible DNA testing service. Accurate results for DNA paternity testing with 99.99% confidence or greater take about a week.
When deciding which type of DNA test is right for you, consider first what you might do with the results. In order for the results of a DNA test to hold up in court, for child support, or to change the name on a birth certificate, the test must be done at a clinic using strict chain of custody procedures. Our Henderson DNA testing technicians are trained to follow guidelines that ensure that the results can be used for legal purposes.

Henderson, Nevada - DNA testing
Establishing paternity in Henderson, NV
In Nevada, the husband is usually considered the child's legal father if the couple is married when the child is born, although there may be some exceptions. The court may have issued an order to establish a different person as the legal father, or a mother and alleged father other than her husband may have signed a VOP (Voluntary Acknowledgement of Paternity).
If the mother is not married when conceiving or giving birth, paternity can be established in two ways. Both parents can sign a Voluntary Acknowledgment of Paternity and file it with the Office of Vital Records, or the judge can declare it after a court hearing. DNA testing will be necessary if the alleged father challenges or denies paternity.
DNA test helps sisters in Nevada to reconnect after 71 years
Katherine Fisher was adopted as a baby and spent most of her life searching for her biological family. The couple who adopted her had just responded to an ad in the newspaper, and it was challenging to discover her birth family since it was not an official adoption. Her sister, Sonta Henderson, still had the original newspaper, which was their only clue into finding the biological family.
Katherine's granddaughter, Amiee Sands, decided to help her and started a search on her own. She went through census records, telephone books, military records, and yearbooks without any luck. Ultimately, she tried DNA testing and finally found her first cousin. That cousin initiated that contact, which led the sisters to reconnect, and they even met for the first time!
Betty, Katherine's biological sister, could not believe it but said it was like a dream come true meeting her birth sister after so many years. Even though it took them 71 years to finally meet, they appreciate every moment they have spent together since.
