Hartford, CT: Drug abuse trends

Recent drug abuse trends show that Connecticut is struggling with an opioid epidemic. From 2012 to 2020, there was a 285 percent increase in drug overdose deaths, and more than half of these deaths occurred at individuals' residences. The leading drug in overdoses was fentanyl, which was involved in 85 percent of all fatal overdoses—followed by cocaine, methadone, and amphetamine/methamphetamine.

Altogether, 93 percent of overdose deaths in Connecticut involved an opioid in 2020. From 2012 to 2020, illicit drugs and misuse of prescription opioids proved to be the leading cause of drug overdose deaths in Connecticut, taking the lives of about 7,695 people. Like many cities in the United States, Hartford was hit by a large increase in overdoses during the 2020 pandemic.

Hartford man sentenced to prison after trafficking drugs

A Hartford man was charged with 65 months in prison and three years of supervised release after distributing narcotics. According to 2018 court documents, the man was supplying cocaine and crack and selling drugs to many customers in Hartford.

Law enforcement investigated him for a while and conducted needed evidence. He was detained since his arrest in 2019, but in 2022 he was also charged with narcotics trafficking and firearm possession, to which he pleaded guilty.
