Substance abuse statistics for Hamilton, OH
Hamilton, Ohio: Drug abuse trends
Hamilton, Ohio, located in Butler County, has been facing significant challenges with the substance abuse problem, particularly the opioid epidemic. In 2020, Butler County joined the One Ohio lawsuit in hopes of obtaining funds to address the issue. The state had projected to receive $24.4 million to combat the opioid epidemic. Larger cities like Hamilton were expected to receive $6.1 million.
The reason Butler County sought these funds is because the opioid epidemic places a considerable financial burden on local governments. Without adequate resources for education and prevention, effectively combating the opioid epidemic becomes nearly impossible.
Furthermore, there has been a notable shift in drug usage patterns in the area, with individuals transitioning from heroin to methamphetamine and fentanyl. This combination of drugs was present in 35 percent of all drug overdoses. Fentanyl was found in 87 percent of all drug overdose deaths in the area.

The authorities said the amount of fentanyl they found and took could kill at least 200,000 people.
