This coalition partners various types of local professionals, including public health officials, recovery experts, and law enforcement, to enhance the local response to deadly drug use concerns from many different angles.
For example, the group is currently working to develop specially trained overdose response teams using recovery coaches, law enforcement, and harm reduction specialists that can help better prevent and treat overdoses in the area. The coalition is also advocating for a variety of state policy changes, including stricter and safer prescribing regulations, that help better control access and address abuse concerns before they begin.
Local News Events Relating to Substance Abuse in Hadley, MA
In August 2023, a man was arrested in South Hadley after law enforcement executed three search warrants in Hampshire County which resulted in the seizure of cocaine. The arrest came in part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation led by the Massachusetts Commonwealth Interstate Narcotics Reduction Enforcement Team (CINRET) and federal Homeland Security Investigations.
According to reports, law enforcement first discovered more than 2 kilograms of cocaine inside his South Hadley residence. Following the initial search, law enforcement then raided the suspect's Springfield home, where they found an additional 160 grams of cocaine and two illegally possessed firearms. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with trafficking cocaine and conspiracy to violate Massachusetts drug laws.
