Greenwich, Connecticut: Drug abuse trends
Greenwich, a town in Fairfield County, CT, is grappling with concerning drug abuse trends. High rates of binge drinking and marijuana are common in Fairfield County. The county has a death rate of 27 per 100,000 individuals, driven by suicides and drug-related incidents. The presence of fentanyl, an extremely potent opioid, and xylazine, an animal tranquilizer, has significantly fueled the rise in drug overdoses. Even small amounts of fentanyl can be fatal. Narcan, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, is not effective against xylazine.
