Specimens we can test for DNA
The easiest and most reliable way to obtain a DNA sample for paternity testing is to swab the inner cheeks of the people being tested. These skin cells are known as buccal cells, and they rub off easily onto cotton swabs and remain in place for analysis by our laboratory. Other specimen samples, such as hair follicles, fingernails, and garments that might contain someone's DNA, can also be tested. An Alternative Specimen DNA Test is done by registering online and shipping the specimens to us.
Legally Admissible DNA Tests vs. "Peace of Mind" At-Home Tests
A Legal Paternity Test is a court admissible DNA testing service. Accurate results for DNA paternity testing with 99.99% confidence or greater take about a week.
When deciding which type of DNA test is right for you, consider first what you might do with the results. In order for the results of a DNA test to hold up in court, for child support, or to change the name on a birth certificate, the test must be done at a clinic using strict chain of custody procedures. Our Fort Wayne DNA testing technicians are trained to follow guidelines that ensure that the results can be used for legal purposes.

Fort Wayne, Indiana - DNA testing
Establishing paternity in Fort Wayne, IN
A man is considered the legal father of a child if he was married to the mother when the child was born. If the child was born no more than three hundred days after the divorce, he is also usually considered the legal father. In all other cases, paternity must be established if the father wants any legal rights to the child. Establishing paternity in Fort Wayne, Indiana can happen in two ways. A Paternity Affidavit can be signed, or there can be a court order.
A Paternity Affidavit is a legal document allowing women and men to establish paternity without a court order. This document can be signed in the hospital when the child is born or at the local health department.
The second way is to file an action in court. The court will set a hearing and order a DNA test unless both parties agree on paternity without it. If the court orders DNA testing, parties will then be tested. Once the results are ready, the court will decide about establishing paternity.
DNA test reunites family after 50 years
Jody Castle was adopted as a baby and was always told she was an only child. More than 50 years later, she took a DNA test to learn more about her nationality. Everything changed when the DNA test revealed she had two sisters and a brother!
She always thought she had no siblings, so this was very exciting for her. Jody was reunited with three of her siblings but also discovered that there were still another four siblings she had yet to meet. There were eight of them in total! They are currently searching for the other four.
Castle was so excited about this newfound family that she decided to post about it on social media, hoping that her friends would help her find the other missing siblings. But, for right now, she is excited she at least found the two sisters and a brother.
