In June of 2021, the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Air and Marine Operations (AMO) successfully completed a major drug bust in Fajardo. After inspecting a vessel, they discovered 516 bricks concealed inside hidden compartments. They then seized 1,299 pounds of cocaine, estimated to be worth $17.6 million.

In July of 2021, Puerto Rico Governor Pedro Pierluisi signed the Medicinal Cannabis Act into law.
