Fairfield, CA: Drug abuse trends

Fairfield belongs to Solano County, which has been struggling against the nationwide opioid epidemic. The last few years have been worse than ever for Solano County, and experts believe that the COVID-19 pandemic is to blame. The social distancing regulations caused many people to not meet with their support system, subjecting them to poorer mental health. With the increase in depression, anxiety, fear, and uncertainty came an influx of drug use to cope. Support groups for substance abuse were less available, and more people were left to face addiction on their own.

Many of these people were already struggling with addiction, but it only worsened when the regulations rolled out. Those who have not used drugs for months or years relapsed, and others started to abuse substances even more. Solano County's mortality rate increased by 13 percent. In 2020, the county experienced an opioid mortality rate of 8.7 out of every 100,000 residents. Opioid overdoses swept Fairfield during this time, and fentanyl's popularity grew and caused even more deaths. Today, fentanyl abuse is one of the biggest threats in California due to its high potency and risk of overdose death.

Police arrested Fairfield man for drug trafficking

The police investigated a man for a month, which led to his arrest for drug trafficking. The police obtained a search warrant and discovered the man was dealing a large amount of drugs from his home. The agents seized about 280 grams of fentanyl, 225 grams of cocaine, and 43,000 dollars. The street value of the drugs they found was $65,000. Due to the large quantity of fentanyl and cocaine seized by authorities, the man was charged with Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs.
