In an effort to supply stronger resources to target the spiking concern of drug abuse, trafficking, and overdose-related deaths in Evansville and the surrounding Vanderburgh County area, the U.S. Attorney's Office designated the county as a High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA). This designation allows Vanderburgh County to now access federal resources to combat drug distribution and increase enforcement initiatives across the area.

Through these resources, local law enforcement agencies are developing better-targeted efforts to reduce drug-related activity and the risk of violence that accompanies local trafficking operations. The program encompasses a multitude of state, local, and federal counterparts to help dismantle the most dangerous drug trafficking and money laundering organizations in the Vanderburgh area.
