In recent years, fentanyl has become increasingly popular in California. The number of deaths from this potent opioid increased ten times between 2015 and 2019. Counterfeit pills have become easily available across the entire USA, and two in five fake drugs with fentanyl contain a lethal dose.
Additionally, 64 percent of fatal drug overdoses in Los Angeles County involved prescription drugs, and 88 percent of these drugs involved Rx opioids. In 2021, the DEA seized over 20 million counterfeit pills containing fentanyl. Despite the DEA's success in removing so many counterfeit pills from the streets, fentanyl still remains a prevalent problem in Los Angeles County.

Gang investigators searched two homes in El Monte, California, and found eight unregistered weapons, but that is not all. They also seized over a hundred pounds of methamphetamines, fifteen pounds of heroin, and ammunition. The drugs they found had a street value of $350,000.
So far, the deputies have not released any names or the gang name because the investigation is still ongoing. However, they did say they were tipped on the weapons by the community and had no idea they would also find drugs.
